The History of the GED Program and The Knox County Detention Center |
|
The GED program was started in the United States in the 1940s. Now over 700,000 people take the GED each year and around 50% obtain a passing grade. The Knox County Detention Center was built in 1984, but it wasn't until 2012 that the first GED class was offered inside the jail. Five of those original seven students passed the tests and obtained their GED. Their names are listed below in Date order. All others follow these first five. |
